IUP Performing Arts Groups Present Gilbert & Sullivan’s Swashbuckling Pirates of Penzance
The Cartoons of Randy Bish at Jimmy Stewart Museum
The Jimmy Stewart Museum will be featuring a new exhibit entitled The Cartoons of Randy Bish. RandyBish drew cartoons for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in western Pennsylvania for over 31 years. Today,his work is distributed via Pennsylvania NewsMedia. Randy comes from Walkchalk, Pennsylvania. (Yes,it’s a real place, near Kittanning)
Hereafter Regional Juried Exhibition 2024 - OPEN CALL
Craft objects have long been a vehicle for processing and understanding emotions, celebrating life, and invoking memory. For this exhibition, Contemporary Craft invites artists working with craft media, (including but not limited to wood, metal, fiber, glass, ceramic, found object, and paper) to respond to themes of grief, loss, joy, healing, and mourning.
Ordnung, An Amish Ballet to Premiere at IUP
IUP Dance Theater, along with devised theater students from the Department of Theater, Dance and Performance, guest artists, community members, and The Mahoning Valley Ballet will premiere this collaborative work on Thursday November 10, 2022 at Waller Main Stage with a free pre-show discussion with Torah Bontrager, founder of The Amish Heritage Association at 5:30 p.m.
New Works Festival at IUP
Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Theatre-by-the-Grove will close the 2021-22 season with the New Works Festival. The festival consists of five live performances of new one-act plays. The plays are “The Ox and the Door” by 2006 alumnus Chris Steele; “Death Wish” by 2013 alumnus Stephen Harvey; “Burying Mr. Mittens” by 2005 alumnus Phil Keeling; and “A Reimagining of Romulus and Remus” by current IUP theatre major Jacob Weverink. Directed by Michael Schwartz, the production will run April 6-9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Waller Hall main space, with a final matinee performance Sunday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m.
Two Recitals Following Residency of Acclaimed Opera Conductor at IUP
Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s voice, choral, and piano faculty will join forces to showcase their talent with two free evenings of music - operatic music on April 1 and art songs on April 2. Both performances begin at 8 p.m. and take place in Gorell Recital Hall which is located on the second floor of Sutton Hall.
IUP Art and Design Announces 2022 MFA Thesis Exhibitions
The 2022 Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibitions celebrate the creative accomplishments of four emerging artists who are completing their studies in our graduate program. Their works will be available for viewing in the University Museum, Kipp Gallery, and Annex Gallery from March 26 through April 16, 2022, with a free public reception in all venues on Saturday, March 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
IUP Theater to perform Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel
Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Theater-by-the-Grove and Music Theater will present a co-production of the beloved classic Broadway musical, “Carousel” with music by Richard Rodgers, book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. This musical is based on Ferenc Molnar’s Play “Liliom” as adapted by Benjamin F. Glazer. Agnes de Mille created the original choreography for the Broadway production.
IUP ART AND DESIGN FACULTY FEATURED IN UNIVERSITY MUSEUM FOR APRIL 2021
The University Museum at IUP presents the IUP Art and Design Faculty Triennial 2021 scheduled to open Friday, April 2. Curt Scheib, Dean of the College of Fine Arts, invites visitors to the exhibit with this statement: “We are excited to present this exhibition of works by the faculty of the Department of Art and Design at IUP. As teaching artists and designers whose works are seen and experienced by people both nationally and internationally, our faculty serve as mentors to students, helping them to develop their own artistic voice while also fully engaging them as members of a dynamic and creative community.” Continuing the tradition of showcasing the talent of the faculty, the Department of Art and Design participated in exhibitions at the University Museum in 2015 and 2018.
IUP’s An Evening of Dance & Percussion Takes the Stage for One Final Performance
Collaborating one final time, the IUP Dance Theater Company and the IUP Percussion Ensemble will present “An Evening of Dance and Percussion: Legacy.” Under the direction of Holly Boda-Sutton and Michael Kingan, these two ensembles come together for one final performance celebrating almost 20 years of exciting collaboration. The performance will take place on March 27 at 7:00pm in Fisher Auditorium located in the Performing Arts Center.
IUP’s Theatre-by-the-Grove Offers Virtual Performances for Spring 2021
Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Theater-by-the-Grove will continue their 2020-21 season with four virtual presentations of Topher Payne’s 2013 play Perfect Arrangement. Directed by Michael Schwartz, the production will be presented on March 5, 11, 13, at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on March 7 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets (unique streaming codes) will be available for purchase for live-streaming only. There will be no live audience for these performances.
IUP presents Ned Wert: A Retrospective
A retrospective of artist Ned Wert. Through an interview done on 2-10-2021, Ned chronicles his life as a student, teacher and international artist. Several examples of his work are featured.
IUP’s Dance Theater Opens Season with Phantasmagoria of Edgar Allan Poe
The IUP Dance Theater in collaboration with music faculty at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will present The Phantasmagoria of Edgar Allan Poe. The production will run November 13th and 15th at 7:00p.m and will be streamed live from Zink Dance Auditorium.

Four presenters took what many of us know of as a regional conflict which we call the “French and Indian War” involving the British and French Empires, as well as several indigenous nations and confederacies, and opened our eyes to a wider world conflict.
