In keeping with the mission of Bushy Run Battlefield  Heritage  Society to improve our facility organization,  the position of Museum Facilitator has been updated to Museum Manager. The title and duties have been changed  to allow  further enhancement and preservation  of  Bushy Run Battlefield as an historical, educational  and recreational resource for the community.

West Overton Museums celebrates 95 years by reopening museum's second floor.

On June 16, 1928, 500 visitors gathered in the yard of the 1838 Overholt home for the dedication of the “History House.” Henry Clay Frick’s daughter Helen oversaw and funded the transformation of the home into a historic site to feature the history of Westmoreland and Fayette Counties. Shortly after, the shuttered 1859 distillery was recommissioned as a museum.

Bids being accepted for Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor Johnston House Roof Replacement Project

The Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor (LHHC) is now accepting project bids for a roof replacement project to be completed in 2023. The Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor operates the Lincoln Highway Experience museum in Latrobe, PA, dedicated to sharing the story of the first coast-to-coast highway. The facility is in need of a roof replacement and is now accepting bids for the overall project.

WESTMORELAND CULTURAL TRUST TO UNVEIL A NEW WINGS ACROSS WESTMORELAND LOCATION AT THE LAMP THEATRE IN IRWIN

Westmoreland Cultural Trust partnered with The Lamp Theatre Board of Directors to unveil a new addition to the Wings Across Westmoreland public art initiative. The unveiling ceremony took place on Thursday, October 27 at The Lamp Theatre in Downtown Irwin, where the wings are permanently displayed.

The 259th anniversary of the battle of Bushy Run was held on August 6 and 7. the Bushy Run Battlefield re-enactment was a huge success with about 1600 visitors and more re-enactors than in previous years. For two days the public was given the opportunity to see a small part of their local history that occurred in the summer of 1763.

The Albany Plan of Union 1754

A full twenty-two years before the Declaration of Independence was written, Benjamin Franklin proposed the idea of a central government for the colonies. From June 19 to July 11, 1754 representatives from seven of the thirteen colonies met in Albany, New York. Their purpose was to discuss how to promote better relations between the colonies and the Native Americans and the threat presented by the French to the north of the colonies in Canada.

Letter from Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society President

After being closed for more than two weeks due to installation of our new lavatory system we are open and back in business.

With authorization from PHMC the contractors have finished installing the new lavatory system by using the latest technological advancements. The carpet tiles were removed and the floor in the back of the museum was dug in the process to allow placement of the new system.

The Bushy Run Battlefield Historical Society proudly announces Liz Staab as the new Bushy Run Battlefield Museum Facilitator. Liz Staab grew up in Castle Shannon, PA and currently resides in Brentwood, PA with her grandmother, sister, and dog. She recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in European History.

9th Annual Lincoln Highway SupperMarket Returns for 2022

The Lincoln Highway Experience’s annual Lincoln Highway SupperMarket is returning to the Route 30-based museum this summer for its ninth year. The popular weekly open-air food festival will take place on 13 Wednesdays from June 1-August 24, 5 – 8 p.m., weather permitting, at the Lincoln Highway Experience’s grounds at 3435 Route 30 East in Latrobe.

Westmoreland Cultural Trust will continue its tradition of honoring high school seniors from 18 schools across Westmoreland County for excellence in Visual Art, Instrumental Performance, Theatre Performance, and Vocal Performance. Sixty-four awardees were chosen for their artistic merits by faculty and advisors at their respective schools.
