History Center Extends Free Admission for Kids

This holiday season, the Heinz History Center, Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, and Fort Pitt Museum are offering free admission for kids aged 17 and under, now through Dec. 31, 2023. Free admission for kids is generously supported by community partners UPMC and UPMC Health Plan in November and Howard Hanna Real Estate Services in December.

History Center to Host “History’s Mysteries: The Allegheny Arsenal Explosion”

On Halloween weekend, the Senator John Heinz History Center – the Smithsonian’s home in Pittsburgh – will host a book talk, “History’s Mysteries: The Allegheny Arsenal Explosion,” with History Center President and CEO Andy Masich and authors Tom Powers and James Wudarczyk of the Lawrenceville Historical Society, Friday, Oct. 28, from 6:30-8 p.m.

The Senator John Heinz History Center – the Smithsonian’s home in Pittsburgh – explores the gripping story of a Pittsburgh immigrant who endured poverty, tragedy, and other adversities to become one of the world’s most revered self-taught artists inside its new exhibition, Pittsburgh’s John Kane: The Life & Art of an American Workman, which opens this Saturday, May 21.
